Memory Lane

I was searching the computer for Lord Drachenheim, Dubhain mac Dhara O Raghailligh's old background for 7th Sea and I ran across the old Khemar archives... And realized just how much I miss a good old-fashion creative writing project. I'm currently in four RPG groups- two of them 7th Sea and thus actual Role-play and not just hack-n-slash- but table-top just doesn't have the same depth as the written word. The old Khemar game had it's faults- and I was working too hard at Target to ever have possibly kept up with the posting volume of the top five posters there; but it was a great deal of fun and I would love to do something like it again (as I seriously doubt we would ever be able to start Khemar itself again).

I can't guarantee how much time I'll have, or how long of a post I'll be able to write at a time, but the Cavalier universe (or some spinoff timeline thereof) still stands ready if you're interested. :-]

Came up with some interesting ideas today (in church of all places!)... The Admiral always seemed so cocky and confident before, nothing we've put him through so far has ever really fazed him... But I've always known that one day he ends up this bitter, bigoted old man with a serious hatred of the Romulans or Cardassians or both. I'd like to see him go through something that really seriously scares him or traumatizes him. :-] And we know there are several people back on Earth who would love nothing more than to permanently declare him unfit for command of a starship, like force him into retirement or a desk job. Maybe a court-martial story!

I haven't done much with Sabrina/Steph in a very long time. I don't know if I can pull her voice out with how loud Dubhain and Rhiannon are right now, but I might be willing to try.

The biggest problem is the world-view clash. 7th Sea is a swashbuckling adventure set in a world much like our own only each nation is at it's most unstable point in our history at the same point in theirs (The "french" are about to have their revolution, yet "spain" is in the grip of the Inquisition and "russia" is under their "Ivan the terrible" equivalent.) Khemar very similar to that only roughly 200 years later in a "steampunk" style setting. Star Trek is a different style of story.

If we did do it, I'd prefer a story without some of the really outrageous stuff the original "Sabrina" could do. The Steph version of the character doesn't jump the shark as bad as the original.

There is no reason to not do a storyline that pushes the Admiral harder than he's dealt with before if you are personally comfortable with it. I've done some pretty nasty stuff with some of my characters (Dubhain most recently, but Ashton from Khemar had a large dose of "angst and cookies" to quote that group's motto), so this would be all about your comfort level as a writer.... If you want to do it, the old Yahoo group is still there, reply in Writer's Comments there and we can work out the details.

I have no problems at all with breaking continuity with previous Cavalier storylines, I've already done it a few times myself. And not much of Sabrina was ever set in stone for me (other than being the Admiral's closest most trusted friend and ally, and being dang good looking), so feel free to make whatever changes in her you want. :-] I've thought of some ideas of what direction we might go, and posted them on the group.

Cool... Let me get into Yahoo groups and I'll see what you have there.

Hey! Welcome around the world again! :)

Grynne.... It has been a while. I'm glad to see you are doing better and congrats on the new house! (I've been reading back on selected people's blogs to catch up on things and just read about your surgery this week.)

Things are finally calming down around here and I might even stick around this time. O};-))

We're thrilled about the house. We figured that even if we DO choose to move in a few years the economy should be back up by then and this house will sell for more than we paid for it. Specially sense AKs economy is just different than the rest of the lower 48s.

The back is doing better although still sore, which is just plane annoying.

It's good to see you here again.

I've never played Seventh Sea, but I browsed the gamebooks and thought it quite good--one of the few settings I'd have been willing to GM rather than make up my own.

I adore the 7th Sea setting and am so glad I don't have to run it. If I had to run it I'd have to read all the sourcebooks and wouldn't get the joy of learning about the world as Dubhain and Rhiannon do.
